Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS Dresden conducts application-oriented research and development from the physical and materials-related basics to system developments. Our scientists focus their research on laser welding, cutting, coating, hardening and cleaning processes, on surface and thin-film technologies, gas-phase processes, process monitoring and nanoparticle technology.

Research for Practical Application

In the research and development field the individual Fraunhofer institutes contribute to the global competitiveness of German and European economic zones. They promote innovation, strengthen technological capabilities, improve accepting modern technologies and ensure the much needed training of next scientists’ and technicians’ generations.

At Fraunhofer IWS Dresden we are looking forward to meeting this challenge. With great determination we follow our goal to solve problems in a client-friendly manner. A task is not solved if we provide a research paper or a development report. It is not solved if we develop a new part or demonstrate a new process. We firmly believe that a task is only solved if our client earns money with our solution. This is our mission.
